“After the demise of the Florida Philharmonic in 2003, Martin and I both felt that it was imperative to keep classical music alive and available to the South Florida audience. We were able to financially support the efforts to establish a new orchestra. It was, and continues to be, an honor, a privilege and a pleasure to help provide much-needed funds to this significant cause.”

Edith and Martin Stein became permanent residents of Boca Raton in 1990 but never forgot their roots in New Jersey, where Martin began his career in his family business. He later became a real estate executive and co-founded Enzon Pharmaceuticals, serving as its Director.

After moving to Florida, the Steins quickly became involved in numerous civic and charitable organizations. They also continued their support of many New Jersey institutions, including the Jewish Federation of Middlesex County, Temple Emanuel, Embrace Kids Foundation, and others.

Within the Boca Raton community, the Steins were major philanthropists, generously contributing both time and financial support to The Symphonia. Edith served on the Board, and Martin (one of the organization's three founders) held the permanent title of Honorary Chairman. Other organizations that benefited from their generosity included the Boca Raton Museum of Art, Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation, Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, and Fuller Center. Edith’s love of animals was reflected in her support of Tri-County Animal Rescue.
