Love in the Afternoon

Alexander Platt, the Symphonia's principal conductor from 2006-2009, rejoins us to present Grammy Award-winning guitar sensation Jason Vieaux in a performance of Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranguez. The concert opens with two pieces for Strings from William Grant Still’s “Lyric Suite,” and it will close with Bizet's popular Symphony in C.

Alexander Platt

Alexander Platt has built a unique career spanning the worlds of symphony, chamber music, and opera. He is Music Director of the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra, the Waukegan Symphony Orchestra, and the Wisconsin Philharmonic, and spends his summers as the Music Director of the Maverick Concerts in Woodstock, New York, the oldest summer chamber-music festival in America. For three seasons, he served as The Symphonia's Principal Conductor and spent twelve seasons as Resident Conductor of the Chicago Opera Theater.

Jason Vieaux

Jason Vieaux is a guitarist who goes beyond the classical. He has performed as concerto soloist with over 100 orchestras and has earned a reputation for putting his expressiveness and virtuosity at the service of a remarkably wide range of music. Among his extensive discography is the 2015 Grammy Award-winning album for Best Classical Instrumental Solo. Vieaux’s passion for new music has fostered premieres of works.  In 2012, the Jason Vieaux School of Classical Guitar was launched, an unprecedented technological interface that provides one-on-one online study for guitar students around the world.
